Welcome to the Montgomery High School National Honor Society Website
Joining NHS
Every fall juniors and seniors with a 90% unweighted GPA are asked to participate in the NHS selection process. During an informational meeting eligible juniors and seniors are given a packet that outlines the selection process. It requires candidates to fill out forms listing activities, clubs and community service in which they have been involved. All claims on each form must be signed and verified by coaches and advisors. Forms must be turned in on mandatory due dates. After the foms have been turned in on the due dates five copies will be made for the five members of a faculty council. Using the forms, the faculty council then determines the acceptance of each candidate based on evidence of a candidate's leadership, upstanding moral character, and community service. Students are informed of their acceptance or denial through a letter given out at a meeting after school. This meeting usually takes place in late October or early November. The NHS induction ceremony typically occurs in mid to late November.
What We Do
NHS is a community service club. We hold various fundraisers to donate money to nonprofit causes. One of the most common activities we do is provide bagged lunches and hygiene bags to The Trenton Soup Kitchen. NHS members are also Montgomery High School ambassadors; therefore, we provide services within the school community such as ushering at gradutation and guiding parents at Back-to- School Night. Our most active and popular service we offer is tutoring.
Tutoring
National Honor Society members offer free tutoring services to their peers. It is entirely student run, which means that we have tutoring commitee heads that take tutor requests and also assign the tutors to students in need of help. If you would like to request a tutor from NHS please email us at mhs.nhs.tutoring@gmail.com. Include your name, your grade, your homeroom teacher, your lunch period, and the class (including the level, i.e. CP or AP) in which you want to be tutored. Please indicate all of the days and times that you are available to meet with a tutor after school. It is greatly appreciated if it is the student in need of help who contacts NHS Tutoring, as we like to see students take charge of their own education.
