About Mrs. WhitehouseWhat do we need to know?Is she fun? Boring? Nice? Weird? Read on to decide... |
Right off the bat, there's one thing you should know about me... I love teaching and I LOVE learning! Each morning, I love waking up knowing I will get to see my students' smiling faces and wondering what we will discover together. This will be my seventh year teaching at Montgomery Lower Middle School, but I cannot wait to see what adventures it will bring! To start with, I have a passion for history and reading, which I owe to my parents, a librarian and a Kindergarten teacher, who always encouraged me to keep learning. In addition, I love adventure! I have travelled to a number of countries in Europe and have brought back many amazing stories to go with my photos. While I do love my time curled up with a good book, I also like to be out and about. No matter the season, you'll find me with busy weekends whether it's running, kayaking, hiking, biking, or skiing. I've recently taken up competitive running as a hobby and have completed a few half-marathons, a full marathon and a triathlon. My most recent crazy challenge was the Tough Mudder- 12 miles and insane obstacles. I completed my first one last November and will be doing it again this year. Other hobbies include ballroom and latin dancing, archery, and visiting historic places. Finally, I'd like to share with you my philosophy on teaching: As a teacher, I believe in three main ideas: 1) All children should find the spark of learning that lasts a lifetime because of the experiences and opportunities that their teachers provide in a nurturing environment. 2) A successful teacher is one who shows love and caring for each and every child by giving them the critical social and analytical tools necessary to survive any situation and helping them develop their individual characters. 3) Students should develop a sense of responsibility for their work and their learning because this will help fuel their desire to achieve and their confidence in ability.
