What is Strategic Planning? In 2007, the Montgomery Township School District embarked on a major initiative to create a five-year strategic plan for the district. We are currently in the third year of this strategic plan. The plan serves as a blueprint for change and a framework for decision making. Our current school and district goals are tied to the goals set forth in the strategic plan 3 years ago. The strategic plan established a vision, mission and beliefs for the school district. It involved a collaborative process that allowed the community to work together with the schools to accomplish the goals, objectives, and activities that constitute the strategic plan. It enabled the school district to set specific data-driven priorities. The plan established numerous milestones as measurements of the level of achievement of the goals. The strategic plan lives in our classrooms, our schools and at the district level. It informs much of what we do as a district. There were four major goals established by the committee: Goal 1 All students acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and dispositions to succeed as adults in a global society. Goal 2 All staff members demonstrate commitment to the success of every child and to continual professional growth. Goal 3 All members of the school community are connected, known and valued. Goal 4 All community members feel welcomed and express pride in their public schools. There were 9 Strategies put into place in order to achieve those four goals. They are: Strategy 1 We will create a personalized environment that recognizes and responds to the uniqueness of each and every child. Strategy 2 We will design and implement the highest caliber programs, curricula, and assessments to guarantee successful, culturally prepared, and self-directed learners. Strategy 3 We will design and implement collaborative systems that use qualitative and quantitative feedback to continually improve the quality of teaching and learning. Strategy 4 We will attract, retain, and value world class educators. Strategy 5 We will create and nurture a welcoming school environment that engages students, staff, parents, and community. Strategy 6 We will provide facilities that guarantee a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment. Strategy 7 We will create and maintain an organizational culture that values innovation and leverages the creative potential of all members of the school community. Strategy 8 We will foster and grow meaningful and successful partnerships with the local and broader community. Strategy 9 We will use appropriate data to monitor and ensure an effective and efficient school district. Thanks to the efforts of our teachers, students, administrators and school community, we have been highly successful at moving toward the realization of these vital goals and strategies. One can see the results of our work together in the classrooms, the schools, the facilities and in the culture of the school district. We look forward to continued progress toward meeting and exceeding our goals. The students of Montgomery will be the beneficiaries of our efforts. |
