    Dear Parents/Guardians,

The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) assessments for English Language Arts and Mathematics will be administered to students in grades 7 & 8 enrolled in New Jersey public schools throughout the month of May.  Additionally, the New Jersey Student Learning Assessment - Science (NJSLA-S) will be administered to all 8th grade students during the month of May. This assessment is a field test and replaces the NJASK-Science assessments. For specific testing dates, please refer to the testing schedule below.

The PARCC assessments are designed to provide information to districts about student performance in specific content areas, as specified in the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS).  Students enrolled in Algebra 1 Part 2 and Algebra 1 Honors will be taking the Algebra 1 PARCC assessment. Proficiency on this assessment is a graduation requirement as per the state.

While in its premiere year, the NJSLA-S is designed to provide information to districts regarding the implementation of the new Next Generation Standards for Science. For this first year, this assessment will act as a field test. The NJSLA-S is a comprehensive assessment aligned to the new standards. Further, these results will provide a snapshot of how your student performs on a standardized test given across several days in relation to peers in the district and across the state.

Some portions of the PARCC and NJSLA-S assessments contain audio-video components that will require students to use headphones. Students are encouraged to bring their own headphones to school, as they will be most comfortable wearing a familiar device during the testing.

No electronics (cell phones, iPods, iPads, Apple watches, or other smart devices) nor book bags will be permitted into the testing rooms. If students complete the their test early, they may read a book quietly until the testing time has elapsed.

We appreciate your help and support in the implementation of these assessments. Please encourage students to prepare for these assessments by getting a good night’s sleep and eating a healthy breakfast prior to testing days. Additionally, please be aware that the PARCC assessment will begin promptly each morning. Students who arrive late to the test will not be permitted into the testing rooms and will have to sit for make-up exams the following week.

Thank you for your continued support.
