Proficiency Level Measurement
The Montgomery Township ELL curriculum includes listening, reading, speaking and writing skills that are aligned with both the student's language proficiency level and grade level content instruction. Newly registered students are screened using the WIDA (World-class Instructional Design and Assessment) test. New Jersey requires all ELL students to take the ACCESS (Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State to State) test each Spring. This assessment, classroom performance and teacher recommendation determine a student's continued participation or exit from the program. Evaluation reports from this test provide teachers and parents with a current snapshot of their student's progress in all four language skills.
