Degrees and Certifications:
Wow! We have gotten off to a great start on Room 152! We have 23 students in our class who are all eager to learn and are enthusiastic about being in second grade! For the month of September, we will be focused on learning our daily routines, building a sense of community, and launching our reading and writing workshops. In math, we will begin our unit on place value: recognizing, writing, and comparing numbers up to 1,000.
Reading At Home/Homework
Last night your child brought home their second- grade planner! Inside the planner the homework for the night is recorded by date. Parents, please initial each night as a sign that you acknowledge the homework. Have your child bring the planner to school each day.
As part of their homework, I ask that your child read on a daily basis to deepen their fluency and comprehension skills. Encourage your child to read at home for a minimum of 20 minutes per night. Each month I will send home a reading log, please help your child complete their reading log, and remind them to pass it in at the end of each month.
OHES school policy is 20 minutes of homework per night for second grade (in addition to independent reading.) Beginning this week, your child will receive math homework each night. In a few weeks, I will add word study, additional word work, or reading assignments.
Lots of exciting things take place in school, but it all starts with you at home. Your involvement in your child’s education is invaluable. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. I will be sending you updates informing you of what we are learning in class as well as any news or events. Please check my staff webpage which can be found off the OHES homepage for a lot of important information about the curriculum and the classroom. I enjoy working with your child every day, and look forward to learning much more about them.
