Degrees and Certifications:
Thank you all for attending our Expert Museum! The children were very excited to share their work with you!
This month, in reading, the children have been studying characters. They have been inferring character’s traits and feelings and noticing how characters change and grow throughout the story. We have been recording our thoughts on post its, making sure to include text evidence to support our thinking. Next, we will move onto chapter book series clubs! The children will work in small groups reading books within the same series. They then post their thoughts about characters and much more. Next, they use conversational prompts to discuss their thoughts with their group.
In writing, we made our realistic fiction stories stronger by revising our leads, writing powerful endings, and by stretching out the most important part of the story by using “show not tell” writing crafts. The children will choose a story to publish and celebrate. Our next unit will be Writing About Reading. In this unit, children are writing letters about a character they love. They will learn to expand these letters by adding their opinions about favorite parts, pictures, the title, or by retelling a part of the book that helps the reader understand their opinion.
In math, we are moving onto time and money, Chapters 11 and 14 in our Math in Focus book.
We will begin our hands-on science unit, Living Things.
I look forward to meeting with each of you to discuss your child’s growth at conferences!
