Degrees and Certifications:
A big thank you to our wonderful Room Parents for throwing a fabulous
Winter Party! A great time was had by all! Thank you again for your
generous gifts, it is my pleasure to work with your children each day! I
wish your families a happy and healthy 2020!
In reading and writing, we are moving onto non-fiction. In reading we
will review the features of a non-fiction book and their purposes,
determine importance, what the author is trying to teach us, and read
across texts to compare and contrast information. Finally, the children
will work in non -fiction book clubs and learn to take turns listening and
speaking in a group.
In writing, the children will choose a topic to write about that they can
teach others. Please help your child brainstorm topics they might already
be an expert on: a sport, interest, hobby. They will learn how to extend
chapters and keep their reader interested by using elaboration strategies,
experiment with writing paragraphs, and as always, revise and edit.
In math, we will continue to practice addition and subtraction with
regrouping. We will take our Mid -Year Benchmark sometime in mid-
January. Next, we will begin to learn bar models, which are a pictorial
representation of word problems.
In science, we will begin our Changes on Land Unit.
