Mrs. Ziedonis

Wow! We have gotten off to a great start in our classroom. We have 21 students in our class who are all excited about being back in the school building and are enthusiastic about being in second grade! For the past week, we have been focused on learning our classroom routines, behavior expectations, and building a sense of community among each other. We have launched reading and writing workshops. In reading, Unit 1 focuses on growing our reading stamina, and strategies to decode new words. In writing, we will begin small moment stories, true stories about ourselves. Help your child recall a time when they had a BIG feeling.  For example, the first time they rode a bike without training wheels, a home run during a baseball game, or building a sandcastle at the beach.

In math,we are debuting a new curriculum, Bridges.Click here for the Second Grade Family letter.

In second grade, reading continues to be a very important part of your child’s development as a learner. I believe it is important for all children to enjoy books-whether they read them or someone reads to them. I ask that your child read on a daily basis to deepen their fluency and comprehension skills. Encourage your child to read at home for a minimum of 20 minutes per night.

Thank you for your support from home. Your children are all very excited about beginning another year at OHES! I hope they are all enjoying second grade!

Back to School Night is this week, Thursday, September 15. Click here for the schedule.

Fondly,

Mrs. Ziedonis
