Mrs. Ziedonis

A big thank you to our wonderful Room Parents for throwing a fabulous Winter Party!  A great time was had by all! Thank you again for your generous gifts. It is my pleasure to work with your children each day!  I wish your families a happy and healthy 2023!

In writing, we will wrap up our poetry unit by editing, publishing, and celebrating!  Be on the lookout for a published class anthology of our poems!

Next, in reading and writing, we are moving onto non-fiction. In reading we will review the features of a non-fiction book and its purpose, determine its importance, what the author is trying to teach us, and read across texts to compare and contrast information. In writing, the children will choose a topic to write about that they can teach others. Please help your child brainstorm topics they might already be an expert on: a sport, interest, hobby. They will learn how to extend chapters and keep their reader interested by using elaboration strategies and, as always, revise and edit.

In math, we will have begun Unit 3, Addition and Subtraction Within One Hundred. Click to read:

 Unit 3 Family Letter

Math at Home Set 3  for practice of the concepts taught in this unit.

In social studies, our new unit is Community. We will study: our local government and community leaders, what is the law and who enforces it, civic responsibility, maps and globes, and Montgomery over Time.

Reminder: if you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday by reading a book to the class, let me know!

Supplies needed in our classroom!

With Winter upon us, we are in need of tissues, hand wipes, and hand sanitizer. We do not have a sink in our room, and we depend on hand wipers and hand sanitizer to clean up our hands after coughing and sneezing. Thank you!
