Degrees and Certifications:
March is a busy month! We began the month by celebrating Read Across America Week. Over the next two weeks, our class will be cub casters, reading the daily news to the school. If your child wants to select a popular, appropriate song for the beginning of the newscast, and/or a joke or riddle to read, they may. The schedule of cub casters is here.
We have wrapped up our non fiction reading and writing units by celebrating our published nonfiction books with our classmates, and finishing up with our book clubs where students collected facts on their topic and grew conversations using these facts.
In reading, we are moving onto studying characters and story elements. Children will follow a character and infer the character's feelings and motivations using text evidence to support their thinking. Next we will focus on the skills needed to read bigger books! The focus will be on fluency, noticing figurative language as we read, and tracking longer books!
In writing, the children are writing realistic fiction stories - narrative stories about realistic characters. The children will dream up a character like themselves, imagine problems that character might face and write edge of your seat, suspenseful stories that keep the reader interested!
In math, we are beginning Unit 5, Place Value to One Thousand

In Science, we are beginning our Changes to the Land Unit. We will study maps, notice how maps are alike, how they are different, and ask ourselves, “Why do we use maps?” We will make a model of mountains, and notice how rivers flow. Next,we will make a model noticing how rocks move from mountains and end up as sand on the beach, and examine how water and wind impact land.
Reminder:If you would like to read a book to the class to celebrate your child’s birthday, please let me know! Thank you!
