    REGION II CHOIR AUDITIONS
    INFORMATION

    Performing in Region II Choir is considered a great privilege for selected high school singers from MHS and across our portion of the state.  It involves great preparation to become a part of the ensemble and commitment to be successful in the ensemble if accepted.  Please make a note of some basic, but critical, information below before proceeding to apply.  AUDITION SLOTS ARE LIMITED, SO PLEASE GET IN YOUR APPLICATION AS SOON AS YOU CAN!

    The following needs to be HANDED IN NO LATER than November 5
    • Completed Student Information Page (see above) - DO NOT COMPLETE THE ONLINE FORM! I WILL DO THAT!
    • Completed Endorsements/Signatures Page (page 6 from the Audition Packet, click HERE)
    • $15 Cash
     
    READ ALL THE STEPS BELOW IN PREPARING…

    STEP 1:  You must be able to completely commit to the REHEARSAL and PERFORMANCE DATES to be a member of the choir (see page 3 & 4 of the Audition Packet in the link above).

    STEP 2:  YOU MUST MEET WITH THE DIRECTOR TO DETERMINE AND CONFIRM YOUR VOICE PART.  You may only audition on one part.  Indicate this on your Information Sheet

    STEP 3:  After you confirm your voice part, please complete the Student Information Page (see link above).  DO NOT COMPLETE THE ONLINE APPLICATION!  I WILL DO THAT FOR YOU!

    STEP 4:  Print and Return the Endorsements/Signatures Page (page 6 from the Audition Pack, see link above).

    STEP 5:  Please submit the $15 CASH (no checks) application fee with Information and Endorsements Pages to the director.  An application check on behalf of all applicants will be sent by the director.

    STEP 6:  USE YOUR PACKET… TO PRACTICE!  YOU WILL NEED TO PRACTICE IN ORDER TO BE SUCCESSFUL.  THERE IS NO COACHING AT THE AUDITIONS.

    STEP 7:  PRACTICING:  DOWNLOAD THE TRACKS BELOW to HELP YOU PREPARE.

    STEP 8:  Please check in on your audition practice progress on occasion with the director.  Remember, you are responsible for preparation leading up to the upcoming audition day: SATURDAY, DECEMBER 12 at J.P. Stevens High School, Edison, NJ.

     

    STUFF TO HELP YOU GET READY!!

    AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:  All materials must be performed memorized.  You will need to perform 5 items:
     
          1.  HIGH Diatonic Major Scale (ascending, pause for breath, descending on "ah")
     
          2.  LOW Diatonic Major Scale (ascending, pause for breath, descending on "ah")
     
          3.  CHROMATIC scale (first 8 chromatic pitches):
               Soprano/Tenor: F-C (ascending, pause, descending on one long "ah")
               Alto/Bass: C-G (ascending, pause, descending on one long "ah")
     
          4.  SOLO:  The Ash Grove - sung a cappella (your starting pitch is the first note of the song: "The...")
     
          5.  QUINTET (The Silver Swan):  Your part with backing tracks for the other SSATB parts.
     
     
    PRACTICE TRACKS:
    PLEASE download the following practice tracks.  Right-click on the link, and choose "save target as," then save to your computer.
     
    1. and 2.  Diatonic Scales:  There are no practice tracks, you should be able to practice these without assistance.  Please check your packet to find out which pitches your scales start on.
     
    3. Chromatic Scales - Practice Tracks:  In auditions, you will ONLY be given the starting pitch (as heard at the beginning of the practice tracks).
     
     
    4. Solo: The Ash Grove - Practice Tracks:  In auditions, you will ONLY be given the starting pitch (as heard at the beginning of the practice tracks).  
     
     
    5. Quintet - The Silver Swan - Part-Learning Tracks: the following are YOUR PART ONLY TO LEARN - this is NOT played at auditions.
     
          
         After memorizing your part, please practice with the tracks below as these are the EXACT TRACKS used in auditions.
     
         Quintet - The Silver Swan - the following have YOUR PART OMITTED - this IS WHAT THEY WILL use in auditions.
         NOTE - There is a difference between Soprano I and II - all other voice parts (AI & AII, TI & TII, BI & BII) are the same.
      
     
         NOTE - The "All Voices" practice track is to help you have a feel for tempo and blend, it WILL NOT BE USED at Auditions.

    NEW JERSEY ALL-STATE CHOIR AUDITIONS
    INFORMATION
     
    FOR 2015 - 2016

     Please return the following sheets from the audition packet, completed with audition fee by the Due Date - MARCH 1:

    If you misplace your packet, please see the director to obtain a new one.  Sight-reading materials can also be procured through the director.   Other than that, please download practice tracks for the audition below... all materials MUST BE MEMORIZED.
