2026-2027 MTSD District Calendar

Important Message from MTSD Health Services
The MTSD Health Services team has shared an important message regarding the start of cold, flu, and GI Illness season.
Outdoor Recess Update
As the weather gets colder, it becomes increasingly important that students are properly dressed for outdoor recess. Typically, we send students outside as long as the temperature is projected to be 35 degrees or higher for the day. Knowing this, we ask that you continue to send your student in with a winter jacket. Students will be sent outside for recess regardless of whether they are wearing a jacket or not. While our staff will give reminders during the day as well, please remind your student(s) to bring and wear their jacket outside for recess.
Health Office Update
We have seen an uptick in incidents of gastrointestinal illness at OHES. Some GI illness is contagious for forty eight hours after the last symptoms. With that in mind, students with vomiting and/or diarrhea should remain home for forty eight hours after symptoms have resolved. For convenience, please refer to the following:
| Day Symptoms Resolved | Return to School Day |
|---|---|
| Monday | Thursday |
| Tuesday | Friday |
| Wednesday | Monday |
| Thursday | Monday |
| Friday | Monday |
| Saturday | Tuesday |
| Sunday | Wednesday |
Hopefully this will allow our Cubs time to recover while ensuring as much as possible that everyone remains healthy for the holidays. Also, please remember to practice good hand hygiene with your children. Hand sanitizer alone is not enough to kill some GI bugs. Students should wash their hands with soap and water after using the bathroom and before and after eating.
Please feel free to contact the school nurse, Rachelle Hanna, at rhanna@mtsd.us if you have any questions or concerns.
Safety Updates: Parent Drop-off
Please see below for a couple important safety-related updates regarding our parent drop-off process at Orchard Hill from 9:25-9:35 AM:
1. For families dropping off at the solar panel parking lot adjacent to the east gym, we have seen an increase in parents choosing to park and walk their child across the drop-off line to the double doors. Please understand this creates an increased risk. Should you choose to walk your student to the doors, we ask that you park close to the front sidewalk near the 30-minute and handicapped parking spots, meaning you would take the sidewalk around to the double doors, rather than try and walk across the drop-off line.
2. For families dropping off at our kindergarten traffic circle, please wait until you drive past the yellow-painted traffic gate before letting your child exit your vehicle, should you choose to escort your student to the doors. This will help to ensure cars don’t bypass cars in front of them in line, ensuring the safety of all.
Of course, our lines operate the best when parents pull up and allow our staff to open doors and guide students to the doors at both locations.
We appreciate your attention to this as we continuously assess our arrival procedures here at the school.

Winter Sports at UMS
We are happy to know that our students want to support one another and cheer on the UMS Cougars at games and matches.
Please note the following:
-
If any student is staying for a game or match, they must be in a supervised location before the start of the game or match. This may be a teacher’s after-school help or a club. At this time, UMS cannot offer a designated location for student spectators waiting for the game to start. If there is no place for a student to be supervised, they may go home and be brought back by a parent or guardian. Parents/guardians are welcome to stay at the event to supervise their children and support our students.
-
At the start of a basketball game, students are to sit in the student section of the bleachers in our gym.
-
At the beginning of a wrestling match, chairs should be offered to parent/family spectators first.
-
Students are to remain in their chosen location until the game/match is over or their ride has arrived. They are not permitted to roam the halls or traverse back and forth from one game to another.
-
Students are to follow the UMS Code of Conduct and respect the site supervisor and coaches at all times. Additionally, when cheering, we should be uplifting and encouraging ALL players.
-
All students must have a ride home by 5 pm for any event, as there is no supervision after games/matches. Students who do not have a ride present at the end of games/matches will be suspended from this privilege for the remainder of the season.
Thank you for your support of our UMS Cougars!
Student ID Update
UMS students recently received new student ID cards with updated pictures from the 2025-2026 school year. These are essential for enhancing safety and efficiency within our school community. Students must scan their ID cards to ensure accurate attendance when entering and exiting their buses. Students will also use their ID cards to make payments when buying lunch, drinks, or snacks in our cafeteria. Additionally, their ID cards will be used to receive a loaner Chromebook and to check out books in the school library.
Students must wear their ID cards daily, as they are considered district/school-issued materials. At UMS, it is the expectation that these ID cards will be visible via the school-issued lanyard at all times when on school property. This extends to beyond school hours during school-sponsored events. Please consult with your school’s code of conduct regarding the logical consequences of failure to follow this expectation. Starting 12/3, consequences will begin to be issued for students without their ID.
If your child loses their ID card, lanyard, or ID holder, there will be a $5.00 replacement fee. Please visit our school webpage to complete a Google Form requesting a replacement component.
