MHS Latin Students Excel in National Exam
Congratulations to our MHS Latin students from both Mr. Beyer's and Mr. Dominick's classes for their exceptional performance in the 2017 National Latin Exam. 64 MHS students took the National Latin Exam in March, and 43 earned awards for outstanding performance (67% vs. 38% nationally!).
Distinctions include eight gold and twelve silver medal winners: Adam Schneider, Alexis Blecher, Angela Zhou, Brian Richie, Christos Fragulis, Helen Yang, Hunter Myers, Ivan Chau, Jinnie Pang , Julia Hans, Kristin Lucht, Lisa Knuckey, Liyun Huang, Rishiraj Korde, Robert Tidona, Samuel Steen, Vicki Lu, William Rarich, Yesh Datar, and Zachary Ward.
Two students -- Vicki Lu and Robert Tidona -- earned the prestigious Maureen O'Donnell Oxford Classical Dictionary Award for having earned four consecutive gold medals. This distinction places them in the top one-half of one percent of fourth-year test takers.
The National Latin Exam is offered under the joint sponsorship of the American Classical League and the National Junior Classical League. The exams taken at Montgomery High School this year were Latin I, Latin II, Latin III, and Latin IV Prose. Categories within exams include grammar, comprehension, mythology, life, history, derivatives, and questions based on a short passage in Latin.
