Extended School Year program (ESY)

June 8, 2020

Dear Parents.Guardians:

It is June, the end of the school year is rapidly approaching and there are many questions regarding the structure of the District’s Extended School Year program (ESY). To date, the Governor’s Executive Order prohibits holding in-person sessions with students and we have not been provided with any indication as to when new guidance will be forthcoming.

At this time, in light of the current situation (COVID-19) and the District’s desire to plan a meaningful and appropriate ESY program offering, the District will provide a virtual ESY program for all students who have ESY services in their IEP. The ESY program will run July 6, 2020-August 6, 2020, Monday- Thursday.

Together, teachers, related service providers, and administrators are working to organize direct synchronous and asynchronous virtual learning experiences for students attending the ESY program, tailored to their individual needs.  Additionally, extension lessons will be shared with families to allow for reinforcement of the skills during non-instruction times. Related services such as occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy will continue to be offered virtually with extension lessons as appropriate.

Shortly, you will receive more  information from your child’s Extended School Year teacher,

If at any time moving forward, the Governor lifts or modifies the Executive Order pertaining to schools building closures and the buildings are allowed to re-open, we will revisit our recommendation to hold ESY on the virtual platform.

We understand and appreciate how difficult the COVID-10 pandemic is for our school community.  The Montgomery Township School District staff will continue to face these challenges together, with you, for our students.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to your child’s case manager or to me directly.

I wish you all a happy and healthy end of the school year.
