    Guidance Groups

    Mrs. Fornal and Mrs. Schantz provide opportunities for students to work with children in a small group setting in order to give students skills they need to be successful at home, at school, and in life.

     

    Guidance Groups are offered at two different times during the year.  The first session of groups begins in November shortly after Parent Teacher Conferences.  The second session of groups begins in February / March.  

     
    Parents are encouraged to contact us if they feel that their child would benefit from any of these groups.   Please fill out and return the permission slip for the group you would like your child to participate in. Please click here to access all of the Permission Slips. 
     

     
    Newcomers Group

    The first group of the year, the Newcomers Group, is held to assist new students with their transition into Montgomery Township Schools.   Students are given the opportunity to talk to other new students, ask questions about the school, and to participate in activities.

     

     

    Friendship Group
     
    The friendship group was made just for me because I need help when I am talking to other kids. Sometimes I just don’t know when it is a good time to stop talking, other times I talk too loudly and sometimes I don’t understand what someone is trying to tell me when they use their body language instead of their words. I also have a hard time meeting new people and making new friends.  If you think this sounds like you, this group might be made just for you too!
     
     
     
    I Like Me Group
     
    This group is designed to celebrate me: who I am, my uniqueness, things I do well, and ways to improve things I may not do so well. In this group, I will learn the importance of being an individual, strategies to approach new friends and keep old friends, as well as learning tools that I can use to cheer myself up when I am feeling down.
     
     
    Emotional Regulation Group
     
    Emotional Regulation Group will help me learn strategies to build awareness of my feelings. I will learn more about my triggers and what my body looks and feels like so I can catch myself before my feelings explode or implode.  I will also learn about the importance of communication and relaxation techniques that I can use throughout the day so I can continue to feel good.
     
     
    Organization Group
     
    I know I finished that worksheet, but I can't find it. I know I put my math book right here, but now it's gone!  It's a good thing I am going to be learning strategies in the Organization Group.  This group will give me useful ways to be organized and on top of things.  Some of the things you will learn from this group are: checklists, desk maintenance plans, regular book bag clean ups, creating a clutter free study island at home, ways to organize my papers and folders, and tips on how to be less forgetful.  This group is the perfect group to help me be an organized student at home and at school!
     
     
    How Does Your Engine Run Group
     
    Sometimes my engine runs low, sometimes my engine runs high, but my goal is for my engine to be running just right.  The How Does Your Engine Run Group is a group that helps me be aware of my body in the moment.  I will learn that when my body is on low speed I tend to drift off and daydream and when my body is on high speed, I have so much energy and need to find a good way to burn that energy in school and at home.  This group will teach me to be more aware of myself and will teach me strategies to help regulate my engine speeds to I can be "just right" at the appropriate times.

     
    Divorce/Separation Group
     
    This club is just right for me because my parents are going through a divorce. My friend was in it last year and he was in a blended family. I think it would be nice to be able to talk to other kids who are going through the same thing. I would like to hear what they do to help them feel better when they feel sad or confused.  
     
    Relaxation Group
     I don't know why, but sometimes, I worry a lot.  When I worry, my stomach starts to turn, my head hurts, and it's hard for me to think clearly and concentrate.  The Relaxation Group will teach me what my worry triggers are, what my body looks like when I get worried, and what relaxation strategies I can use to feel in control again.  I will even learn some test taking strategies as well!  This group will help me build my confidence and feel worry-free again.
     
     
    Loss of a Loved One Group
     
     Loss of a Loved One Group is for kids who have lost someone special in their life. It may be a grandparent, an aunt or uncle, a cousin or even a parent or friend. You may also think about joining if you have a family member or friend who is terminally ill. Together, we can talk about ways to remember the special people who are no longer with us. We can also share our memories and find ways to keep those memories forever in our hearts. It will be a safe place to feel sad, angry, and confused as well as a place to celebrate the special times we had with our loved ones.
