Happy New Year!

This month, in reading and writing, we are moving onto non-fiction. In reading we will review the features of a non-fiction book and their purposes, determine importance, what the author is trying to teach us, and read across texts to compare and contrast information. In writing, the children will choose a topic to write about that they can teach others. Please help your child brainstorm topics they might already be an expert on: a sport, interest, hobby. They will learn how to extend chapters and keep their reader interested by using elaboration strategies and as always, revise and edit.

In math, we are finishing Unit 3, Addition and Subtraction, and we will soon have our assessment. Click to read:

 Unit 3 Family Letter

Math at Home Set 3  for practice of the concepts taught in this unit.

Next, we will begin Unit 4,  Measurement. Click to read:

 Unit 4 Family Letter

Math at Home Set 4

In social studies, we are focusing on Economics. Children will:

  • Identify what needs and wants are.

  • Identify what basic goods and services are.

  • Explain how scarcity affects the cycle of supply and demand

  • Differentiate between a consumer and a producer

  • Explain the importance of a budget and saving.

Reminder: if you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday by reading a book to the class, let me know!

Supplies needed in our classroom!

With Winter upon us, we are in need of tissues, hand wipes, and hand sanitizer. We do not have a sink in our room, and we depend on hand wipes and hand sanitizer to clean up hands after coughs and sneezes. Thank you!
