Take a Break(This is not used as a punishment, but simply a chancefor the student to get themselves together beforereturning to the class situation)Morning MeetingThis is how the students will start each of their school days. As a class we sit in a circle to greet one another, share thoughts, exciting news and opinions, and spend time involved in an activity that promotes the strenghts of our classoom community. The goal of Morning Meeting is to allow each student to feel welcome and appreciated, along with setting aside time for social development. It's benefits are well worth the time!HomeworkStudents are encouraged to read nightly. They have the option of reading independently, reading aloud, or listening to fluent reading. Fact practice is also encouraged. Once students are secure with their addition/subtraction facts (completing 20 per minute), they can move onto multiplication facts. Multiplication will be the focus of 3rd grade.Communication FolderThis is also something that should be coming home nightly and will be filled with either "Keep at Home" or "Return to School" items. Important flyers and notices will be placed in the "Keep at Home" side, while homework sheets, lunch money, sign-up sheets, etc. will be placed in the "Return to School" side.*Parents* Any notes for me or notices about a change in student's schedule
or transportation home can be placed in the "Return to School" side.SnackStudents should bring in a healthy snack and only water to drink, due to school policy.
Snack time will occur at approximately 2:45 everyday. Please do NOT send in snacks with PEANUTS or TREENUTS as an ingredient.Thank you for respecting our students with food allergies.BirthdaysStudents can celebrate their birthdays by bringing in a Birthday Book. This book can be new or used. It can be read by a teacher, student, or family member who is willing to come in at 3:15. Please email ahead of time to set up this visitation. Birthday Books can be signed by the class and/ or housed in the classroom for the remainder of the year if the student would like.Helping HandsEvery two weeks 12 students will be given a job in the classroom that is 'hands' on. Each job is equally important in maintaining a smooth running classroom and each students contribution is greatly appreciated.DREAM boxMuch like a mailbox, our Dream box will hopefully open the lines of communication between students and teacher. Notes concerning their wishes and dreams for 3rd grade, academic, social or emotional needs, or friendly letters can be placed in the box anonymously or with a signature. I will check this box often and always respond to every student's request.Compliment JarStudents will have the opportunity to fill the jar with beads for every compliment that they receive throughout the year.Whenever the jar is filled to the brim, a reward is granted.Star of the WeekEach week, throughout the year, one student will be highlighted on our 'Star of the Week' bulletin board. This student will have the opportunity to have 'Star Privileges' and enlighten the rest of the class on what makes them so special.Curious GeorgeGeorge lounges in the beanbag of our library throughout the school day and serves as a classroom mascot. The oversized monkey will hopefully remind students of earlier years and will be involved in independent reading time sincehanging out with him is one of the 'Star Privileges.'Reading CAFENext to our classroom library is our Reading CAFE. This acronym represents the student-focused goals that students will attain throughout the year with Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Expanding Vocabulary.
