Welcome to Mrs. Kitchen's Art Class!
-
My name is Mrs. Kitchen and I teach 5th and 6th grade art at Montgomery Lower Middle School. Students will have art for one of their five cycle classes each year. If you have questions or concerns about your child's art class, the best way to reach me is by email at: nkitchen@mtsd.us
5th Grade Art
In 5th grade art class, student artists will explore a variety of artistic techniques and mediums to develop their creativity and technical skills. We will create drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media projects. Student artists will focus on concepts such as color theory, composition, and texture. Students often engage in hands-on activities, experimenting with different materials and tools, and learning about famous artists and art history. My goal is to encourage self-expression, enhance observational skills, and foster an appreciation for art.
6th Grade Art
In 6th grade art class, student artists will build on the skills and concepts learned in 5th grade while delving deeper into more advanced techniques and artistic principles. We explore a range of mediums, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and printmaking. The curriculum emphasizes developing personal style, understanding elements of art such as line, shape, and space, and applying design principles like balance and contrast. Students might also engage in projects that integrate art history and cultural studies, allowing them to connect their work to different artistic traditions and movements. Our focus is on enhancing technical abilities, encouraging critical thinking, and fostering individual creativity and expression.
