The Montgomery High School Jazz Band was founded in 2004, and is comprised of 20 Montgomery High School students.  The band performs a variety of repertoire to include standard big band music as well as more contemporary jazz.  Membership in the band is by audition only and requires a significant commitment.  Rehearsals begin immediately following the conclusion of the marching band season, and take place every Monday, Thursday, and Friday from 2:45 - 5:00 p.m.

The band performs at a number of local and regional jazz festivals as well as the annual Big Band Bash and Strawberry Festival.  This year, the band is honored to host the United States Air Force Airmen of Note in concert on April 30th.  The band has hosted the University of the Arts Big Band as guest performers on two occassions and has also hosted the NJIAJE prelims and region jazz auditions.

In the bands four years, the students have created a tradition of excellence in performance, being recognized with a number of superior ratings, soloist awards, and best section awards.  Last year, the band received all superior ratings as well as best trumpet, rhythm, and trombone section awards.  In May of 2007, the band performed in Quebec City and Montreal with the symphonic band and wind ensemble.  The band was also invited to perform for President Bush during a visit of his to New Jersey.
