STAGE BAND: The stage band performs a standard big-band jazz repertoire. Students meet two times per week for two hours from December through June. To join, students must pass an audition on an instrument from the big band idiom (saxophone, trombone, trumpet, drum-set, mallet percussion, piano, bass, guitar). Audition materials will be available in November and can be found in the band room. Additionally, students must be a member of the curricular music program except for guitar and piano. JAZZ BAND: The jazz band is an advanced-skills jazz ensemble that performs a standard big-band jazz repertoire. Students meet three times per week for two hours from December through June. To join, students must pass an audition on an instrument from the big band idiom (saxophone, trombone, trumpet, drum-set, mallet percussion, piano, bass, guitar). Audition materials will be available in November and can be found in the band room. Additionally, students must be a member of the curricular music program except for guitar and piano. PIT ORCHESTRA: The pit orchestra provides live musical accompaniment for the school’s spring musical. The instrumentation changes yearly, depending upon the musical production's requirements. Once the instrumentation requirements are known, they will be advertised to the students. To join the pit orchestra, students should express their interest in Mr. Kahalehoe. Depending upon the show's needs and student interests, Mr. Kahalehoe will determine if an audition is necessary. Please speak with Mr. Kahalehoe for any questions.

MARCHING BAND AND COLOR GUARD: Marching Band (including color guard) begins with a two-week camp in late August. The marching band is open to all students at MHS! Any students who wish to play an instrument in the marching band must participate in the curricular music program. Any students who want to join the color guard simply need to sign up! Rehearsals are on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 2:50 pm - 5:00 pm and Fridays from 2:30-game end during the months of September to November. The marching band participates in competitions, festivals, and select community events. The Marching Band has been recognized as one of New Jersey’s finest and consistently receives superior ratings at competitions and festivals. Students with exemplary attendance at practices and games may be eligible to receive a Varsity letter. Please speak with either Mr. Kahalehoe or Mr. Brennan for any questions.
