MHS World Languages: Option II

Option 2 (N.J.A.C. 6A:8-5.1(a)1ii) of the high school graduation requirements allows local school districts to approve educational experiences that serve as an alternative to traditional instruction. Option 2 allows schools to provide a superior education for all students through the use of multiple and diverse paths. The regulations support student participation in deep and meaningful learning experiences that advance their learning and focus on their interests and abilities.
WORLD LANGUAGE CREDITS through OPTION 2:
Credits: 5 Full Year Prerequisite: prior administrative approval Grades: 9-12
Option 2 offers alternative paths to credits that meet or exceed the New Jersey Student Learning Standards.
Students may choose to earn Option 2 credit in order to:

Earn credits toward their 5-credit NJ World Language graduation requirement.

Earn additional credits above and beyond those required for graduation.

Meet prerequisite requirements for certain courses offered during the school year
Students may earn credit via one or more alternative pathways:
- Students can study a language not offered at Montgomery High School. This must be through an accredited program and completed concurrently with the school year. Programs must align to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for World Language. Students must provide official attendance records and demonstrate proficiency through the provision of a performance report/report card, a portfolio or language proficiency assessment.
An application for Option 2 is submitted through the guidance counselor together with the proposed Syllabus from the designated institution or program.
Option II is subject to administrative approval.
