    Dear Montgomery High School,

Congratulations on the completion of your first quarter of the 2013-2014 academic year! I’m sure that MHS has been busy these past few months through both academics and extracurricular activities. The first semester at college has definitely been an adjustment.

You often take so many little things for granted in high school; like home-cooked food, showering without shoes or even walking to classes in an enclosed building. This all changes very quickly when you get to college, and makes coming home a much anticipated event. Living away from home on top of having high academic expectations in college can certainly turn into a disaster for many. Luckily, Montgomery High School has made the academic transition to college significantly easier than the transition many others face.  I am very grateful to all of the staff at MHS for the foundation that they have helped me build which has enabled me to be successful in college thus far.

American University has brought forth some exciting adventures so far including classes in front of the monuments, a police ride along and a number of nationally famous politicians.  My best advice to all of the current students would be to enjoy the time you have at MHS.  Get involved in things you enjoy and appreciate the education you are receiving! Your time at MHS is going to fly but when it is over you are going to look back at many fond memories! I look forward to visiting MHS very soon! Good Luck and have a great rest of the year!

    Fondly,
    Shailen Shah
